Well, what can be said of President Obama’s latest effort to save his flailing reelection campaign?  Desperate?  Arrogant?  Shoddy?  Yes, it seems all apply.  In about the third or fourth last-ditch attempt to appeal to his ever-shrinking and disinterested base, Mr. Obama has chosen to circumvent the Congress and, most importantly, the Constitution.  By granting amnesty (and that’s what it is) to young illegal aliens, Obama is attempting to shore up his young base and his Hispanic base–ironically the very demographics that will be harmed most economically by this latest attempt at amnesty.

But Mr. Obama assumes that Hispanics, or any other immigrant group, will appreciate and support his slap in the face to them and the country they love in allowing those who broke the law to get here–or whose parents broke the law to bring them here–to have a free pass; something for which Mr. Obama and his Democrats are known all too well.  A free pass over the years and fortunes many of those legal immigrants had to wait and pay in order to follow the rules to come to the promised land.

Not only is Mr. Obama’s ploy overtly political, but it reeks of desperation in what must be, behind closed doors, a campaign in turmoil.  Within the last month, we’ve had a turnaround on so-called homosexual “marriage,” a distracting (albeit briefly) “war on women” concocted by his party and used against his opponents, and now this effort to dismiss Congress–something at which this president has become keenly sporty.  He has even returned to the “blame Bush” rhetoric that the American people grew weary of years ago.  In essence, he has nowhere to run from his deplorable record of unemployment, debt, sky-high spending binges, apparent leaks out of his administration, the disintegration of the American family, the health insurance fiasco, cost of living increases, and high energy prices.

The American people have stood up time and time again and rumbled the drums of discontent, yet they only hear continued slurs and slanders directed at them, from the “racist” card to the “greedy” accusation to the “homophobic” mantra.  And Americans have had enough.  They showed it in Wisconsin, they showed it in every state that has allowed the people to vote on the definition of marriage, they feel it every time they stop at the gas station, and it is showing in his approval ratings.

He has blamed Republicans for the mess he has created.  Yet for two years, he and his cohorts ran the U.S. government.  For two years before that, his party ran the Congress (himself included, who voted for the spending for which he now blames President Bush), and even now his party controls the White House and Senate.  The arrogance of someone who refuses to take responsibility for his own actions is a horrible example for our children, but that is the modern Left.  They love to tout their theories, but when the damage is done they begin pointing to their old nemeses–white people, Christian people, conservative people of all races, conservative women, and successful business people.

What Mr. Obama clearly hopes for is not only the approval of Hispanics for his shameless and self-promoting flaunting of the law, but for those illegal aliens he is helping to make their way into the voting booths to vote for him and his party.  And wouldn’t it be sad if he succeeded?  Wouldn’t it be sad, my friends, if the political and economic system of the United States came down to the votes of those who have no right to vote here?

This is a nation of laws–not convenient politics.  Principles mean nothing anymore.  Standards of decency mean nothing.  And for the leader of this nation (in name only at this point) to push the nation’s sacred document aside borders on treason.  In what other country would a leader be allowed to remain in office while allowing invaders to receive free housing, health care, voting rights, and the myriad of other “entitlements” he feels the invaders should have?

No such leader exists, except in the United States of America.  Formerly, a nation of laws.
